A Pianist For The Ages

Emmanuel Ax was born in Lvov, Poland under the crushing rule of the then, Soviet Union. At the age of 9, he and his family moved to Winnipeg, Canada. Finally, at the age of 11, Ax and his parents eventually made it to New York City where he would continue studying music at the Juilliard School under world-renowned pianist Mieczysław Munz.

Ax gained much notoriety at a young age winning honors such as the first Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Tel Aviv, Israel, Michaels Award of Young Concert Artists, and finally winning the coveted Avery Fisher Prize. Emmanuel Ax is a Sony Classical exclusive recording artist who tours regularly inside and outside of North America. Mainly in the Continental U.S, and Western Europe. He ends each of his seasons in the United States with a performance at Carnegie Hall.

This year Mr. Ax is going to give Charlotteans a very special treat when he gives a performance at Halton Theatre, October 18th as a part of The Charlotte Concert Series. Each year the Charlotte Concert Series presents The Crown Jewels Ball which directly benefits The Charlotte Concert Series. Tickets to Mr. Ax's performance can be purchased here.  He will also be making stops in Durham N.C and Charleston S.C as part of his tour of the Carolinas. If you want to see a pianist play with youthful brio, incisive rhythm, bountiful imagination,  delicacy when called for and thundering power when the piano fought back Emmanuel Ax is the pianist you need to see!
